About Us

In 1979, the Borenstein Family–Lou & Lovey and their three grown children, Wendy, Mark and Neal moved from Queens, New York, ventured west to Phoenix, Arizona and fulfilled their dream by opening “Chompie’s Bagel Factory” in a small strip mall. Today, Chompie’s locations are locally-owned award-winning full service restaurants with generously stocked bagel and bakery counters and classic deli cases filled with Chompie’s fresh-from-scratch selections. A favorite of locals and visitors alike, Chompie’s is best known for its authentic NY style boiled-then-baked bagels, famous corned beef and pastrami Mile High Sandwiches, homemade matzo ball soup, Jewish Sliders™, fresh baked-from-scratch breads, black and white cookies, NY cheesecake, rugelach and huge diverse dining menu for breakfast-all-day, lunch and dinner. Chompie’s, “Arizona’s New York Deli”, has grown to include four locations in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe and Chandler that are open 7 days a week, as well as a full-service custom catering department.

Atmosphere

You’ll find a casual and notably New York Deli atmosphere and décor at Chompie’s—with giant New York-themed wall murals (including that of Chompie’s matriarch and patriarch, Lovey and Lou Borenstein, “on the block” in the 1950’s in Brooklyn, NY), Broadway show posters, and framed photos of the Borenstein family with customers and celebrities.

Our Family Recipes

Generations of Borenstein family recipes have become long-time customer favorites, but Chompie’s keeps up with changing times and taste buds as well. The dining menu has evolved to include gluten-free friendly and healthier “Fitness Boot Camp” selections as well as a wide variety of salads. One of Chompie’s more recent originals, Jewish Sliders, made with brisket, potato pancakes, Jack cheese and brown gravy on mini challah rolls, were featured on Travel Channel’s Man v.
